SERIES NEWCOMER McMILLAN READY FOR SCIROCCO SWITCH

One of this season’s new competitors in the Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup, 24-year-old Joe McMillan, is swapping a SEAT for a Scirocco for the coming season.

Wisbech, Cambridgeshire-based Joe has campaigned a Leon Cupra for the last two seasons in the VAG Trophy, and his family team Cobra Engineering is hard at work on a new Volkswagen for his 2014 challenge.

Joe started competing in junior hot rods in 2005 before taking up circuit racing in the SaxMax series. After four seasons with a Saxo in production saloons he moved on to the VAG series and scored several podium finishes.

“The VW Cup is an ideal move for me,” said Joe. “It has always had good grids and great racing, and it seems this season to be a very competitive place to be. I am being realistic about my prospects – there are a lot of people in the field who have been doing it for some time, and who have a lot more track experience than me. I’d like to think that I will be competitive at some point, but I have a lot to find out about first.”

The Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup is expecting at least 10 drivers new to the championship in a field expected to exceed 34. The opening rounds are set for Easter Monday (21 Apr) at the Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire.
