NEWS RELEASE: 11 SEPTEMBER 2014

KPM GOLF GOES AROUND THE CLOCK AND NOW AROUND DONINGTON

Most cars which endure a 24-hour race are treated to a ground-up rebuild before they face the track again. Not so the Milltek Sport KPM Golf TDI which romped to a second-in-class finish at Barcelona’s round-the-clock saloon race last weekend. Just a week later it will be back in action again, this time at Donington Park in the concluding rounds of the Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup.

“We built the Golf to be bullet-proof,” said KPM boss Kevin Poole, “and now we aim to prove its indestructibility… It had a really hard race in Spain, taking several knocks from carelessly driven cars from the upper classes and losing a lot of time in the pits, but the Milltek Golf and its drivers battled back to second in the end.

“We’ve had no real time since it returned to the workshop to do very much to the car – in fact, it will still be carrying quite a few battle scars – but we’re confident it will be competitive and turn a few heads.”

The 2012 VW Cup champion, James Walker, will swap his regular GTI for the TDI at Donington; James was one of the four Barcelona drivers alongside Tom Onslow-Cole, Paul White and Javier Morcillo. Their Spanish success was the squad’s third podium finish this season in the 24 Hour Series.

Walker’s TDI will be one of a three-strong entry from KPM at Donington, joining the Golf GTI of Sam Morgan and the Scirocco of championship title-chaser Lucas Orrock.
