SHOW THRILLS FROM VOLKSWAGEN RACING & MILLTEK SPORT

The public debut of the new Volkswagen Racing UK Golf GTI bodykit and the launch of an exciting competition by Milltek Sport to find a star driver for the coming season of the Volkswagen Racing Cup are among the highlights of the Autosport International show currently being staged in Birmingham.

The bodykit is designed not only to give the Mk V and Mk VI Golf a more purposeful look but also to improve handling, as Volkswagen Racing UK technical director Matt Walker explains: “Widening the front and rear arches allows the Golf a wide track and also to run 9in-wide wheels and Hankook slicks, which will improve traction and cornering and allow the Golfs to compete on a more even footing with the Scirocco.”

The kit can be viewed on the JWB Motorsport Golf taking pride of place on the Volkswagen Racing UK stand (2745) at the Autosport show. The kit, which costs £2280 inc VAT, consists of a new front bumper, bonnet, front wings, rear wheelarches and rear spoiler. “It is a relatively inexpensive upgrade for the Golf,” adds Walker, “and, while not mandatory for this season, we expect many competitors will take advantage.”

Over on the Milltek Sport stand (8540), the search is on to find a driver for the firm’s exciting Mk VI Golf GTI, which will contest the Volkswagen Racing Cup with Milltek’s partner team, 2012 championship-winning squad KPM Racing. The supported drive includes all entry fees and running costs for the season; the winner will be chosen next month after shortlisted drivers are put through their paces.

“Our brand ambassador, Tom Onlsow-Cole, will assess the finalists’ track skills,” said Milltek Sport managing director Steve Pound, “and we will also be doing simulator tests with them as well as assessing their media skills. What we are looking for is someone who will drive the wheels off the car and put Milltek Sport on the podium.”

The Autosport International show runs at the National Exhibition Centre until Sunday (12 Jan).
