KPM REVEALS FIVE-STRONG TEAM FOR VW CUP 2014

The KPM Racing team has confirmed that it will field a five-car team in the Milltek Volkswagen Racing Cup this season. Championship newcomers Lucas Orrock and Paul Bolwell will join the squad alongside 2012 Champion James Walker, 16-year-old Sam Morgan and Philip Morris.

Orrock will be making his car-racing debut. The 23-year-old from Cambridge started his track career in karting in 2006, going on to win the Super 1 National Championships in 2010, ’11 and ’12. In 2009 he also won the British Open Championship and in 2010 and 2011 he won the British Kart Grand Prix. Last year he was second in the MSA senior KZ1 class and claimed eight podium finishes in 12 races of the European Rotax Championship.

Said Lucas, who will race a Scirocco: “Initial testing has looked quite promising for us. It’s quite a big change from karting, but with the distance we’ve covered we are confident we can mix it at the sharp end of the grid.”

Thirty-seven-year-old Paul Bolwell is KPM’s rookie for the season. “I looked around many race series before making a commitment. The VW Cup appealed to me because of the track action, the circuits it visits and the hospitality it offers. I tested in December, really enjoyed my time with the team and knew straight away knew that I had made the right choice. I am looking forward to getting in to the Scirocco and very keen to get this next chapter in my life started.”

Walker, 27, will race the KPM team’s third Scirocco after winning the Milltek Sport ‘Win a Drive’ competition. “KPM has a strong line up this season and I’m really excited to be part of it. From past experience I know how professional the team is and how it operates, so I’m looking forward to being part of such a successful team once again. Let’s hope all our hard work pays off like it did in 2012.”

Kevin Poole, KPM Racing team owner, added: “It’s a great pleasure to be returning to the Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup. We have completed several hundred miles of testing and are now keen to get racing. We are currently building Lucas a new Scirocco which will be tested for the first time next week. Phil Morris also has a new Mk VI wide-bodied Golf in build, which he plans to race at Brands Hatch and Spa. Paul has been handed Martin Depper’s podium machine from last season and Sam returns in the Mk VI Golf in which he excelled at Donington last year.”
