Switched to saloons in 2003 with Mk II Golf GTI, taking 15th place overall in Volkswagen Racing Cup with a best race placing of eighth. Awarded 'Spirit of the Championship' prize

Ninth overall in 2004 - second at Donington Park and fifth at Thruxton

Adopted a swift but troublesome Corrado for 2005, ending season 21st overall

Better season altogether in 2006 with a pole and three podium finishes on his way to championship seventh; and better yet in 2007, taking championship fourth with five top-five race finishes
